Peter Wallensteen is a Senior Professor of Peace and Conflict Research, since 2012. Dag Hammarskjöld Professor of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University 1985-2012. He is also the Richard G. Starmann Sr. Research Professor of Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, since 2006.
Primary research areas include the Causes of War, Conflict Analysis, Conflict Resolution, International Sanctions, Mediation, Conflict Prevention, Global Governance, Peacebuilding. He Directs the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) as well as the The Special Program on International Targeted Sanctions (SPITS). Selective publications include: Peace Research: Theory and Practice (2012), Peacekeeping Operations: Global Patterns of Intervention and Success, 1948-2004 (2006) and Understanding Conflict Resolution: War, Peace and the Global System (2002).
